Dix meets Bix
ExperientialResampling Otto Dix’s Großstadt (1928) into an audiovisual jazz performance. Commissioned by Kunstmuseum Stuttgart and Bix Jazzclub, Dix Meets Bix reinterprets Otto Dix's (1891-1969) masterpiece Großstadt (1928). The triptych vividly contrasts the jazz-fuelled decadence of the Weimar bourgeoisie with the realities of wounded war veterans and prostitutes. The performance blends jazz compositions inspired by Bix Beiderbecke (1903-1931) – an artist Dix himself listened to in his studio – with animated visuals that resample Großstadt in a contemporary 3D space. 💖🕺🏾
